They are colour coded to represent the difference between masculine words (blue) and feminine words (red).

Each word is written twice to help the children remember the difference between LE, LA, L’ (the) and UN, UNE (a).

This a countable noun.

De quelle couleur est le mouton? What colour is the sheep?
Le mouton est blanc. The sheep is white.

Combien de .... y a-t-il? How many ... are there?
Il y en a ... There are ...

Combien de papillons y a-t-il? How many butterflies are there?
Il y en a sept. There are seven.

NB Don't forget the plural 's'.
