LES NOMBRES
61 soixante et un
Numbers, in French, are quite difficult to remember and understand.
For the French numbers 20 - 69, counting is just like in English:
the tens word (vingt, trente, quarante, etc.) followed by the ones word (un, deux, trois).
21 vingt et un
22 vingt-deux
23 vingt-trois
24 vingt-quatre
25 vingt-cinq
26 vingt-six
27 vingt-sept
28 vingt-huit
29 vingt-neuf
The only difference is that with 21, 31, etc., the word 'et' (and) is written between the tens word and one: vingt et un, trente et un, quarante et un, etc.
When you get to 70, instead of a new "tens" word, soixante is kept and the "ones" word continues counting from 10:
71 soixante et onze
72 soixante-douze
73 soixante-treize
74 soixante-quatorze
75 soixante-quinze
76 soixante-seize
77 soixante-dix-sept
78 soixante-dix-huit
79 soixante-dix-neuf
There is no word for 80 in standard French,* instead 80 is quatre-vingts, literally four-twenties (think "four-score").
81 is quatre-vingt-un (four-twenty-one)
82 is quatre-vingt-deux (four-twenty-two)
83 is quatre-vingt-trois (four-twenty-three)
84 is quatre-vingt-quatre (four-twenty-four)
85 is quatre-vingt-cinq (four-twenty-five)
86 is quatre-vingt-six (four-twenty-six)
87 is quatre-vingt-sept (four-twenty-seven)
88 is quatre-vingt-huit (four-twenty-eight)
89 is quatre-vingt-neuf (four-twenty-nine)
There's no word for 90 either, so you continue using quatre-vingt and adding from ten.
90 is quatre-vingt-dix (four-twenty-ten),
91 is quatre-vingt-onze (four-twenty-eleven)
92 is quatre-vingt-douze (four-twenty-twelve)
93 is quatre-vingt-treize (four-twenty-thirteen)
94 is quatre-vingt-quatorze (four-twenty-fourteen)
95 is quatre-vingt-quinze (four-twenty-fifteen)
96 is quatre-vingt-seize (four-twenty-sixteen)
97 is quatre-vingt-dix-sept(four-twenty-seventeen)
98 is quatre-vingt-dix-huit (four-twenty-eighteen)
99 is quatre-vingt-dix-neuf (four-twenty-nineteen)
