Advice for teachers
The new SKOLDO language scheme will provide you with all the necessary resources to teach French to children aged 5 - 12 years old. Its three levels encompass the scheme of work for Primary Modern Languages as advised by the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA) in England.
- Find the right level for your class or pupil.
- If in doubt, choose a lower level so that the children are encouraged by their early success.
- The ideal is for each pupil to have their own workbook. In this way, they can own something that reflects their effort and ability. However, if this is not possible, the photocopiable material found in the teacher's handbook will offer the necessary resources to follow the syllabus through.
- Although much depends on the length of each lesson and how often lessons take place, each level should last an academic year.
- Always encourage the children to speak and read French. The SKOLDO reward stickers, star charts and certificates (see teacher's handbook) help build confidence!
- Make sure the vocabulary words on the present page are remembered before moving onto the next page.
- If you don't feel confident in spoken French, use the CDs.
- If you come across a grammatical point in the book which the children do not understand, stop the French lesson and explain the point in English, using the opportunity to give an English grammar lesson.
- Every attempt has been made to provide the teacher with a comprehensive and user-friendly French language course.
SKOLDO is thorough and original and is now available to you. Enjoy it!
